TOUR OVERVIEW
Tempisque River, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
At only one hour and fifteen minutes from Tamarindo lies the Palo Verde National Park home to the largest wetlands in Central America. This protected ecosystem shelters over 200 species of migratory birds, along with crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, and many other native species. Its ecological importance is so significant that it has been included on the Ramsar World Wetlands List. A two-hour boat safari along the Tempisque River takes you close to the riverbanks and mangroves, where white-faced monkeys often approach the boat and birdlife flourishes during the migration season as they escape colder northern climates. If you love nature and wildlife, this is an essential Costa Rican experience. After the boat tour, enjoy a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant. You may also choose to visit the artisan pottery village of Guaitil or Ortega, where you can see Chorotega-style pottery demonstrations and support local artisans with handcrafted purchases.
