Monteverde

No visit to Costa Rica is complete without visiting the tropical cloud forest of Monteverde. This town is located approximately 4 hours away from Tamarindo and was founded by Quakers from the United States whose pacifist values led them to defy the American draft during the Korean War.

Because of the plentiful rain and humidity you will find trees covered with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, moss and vines and the canopy is extremely rich with birds, insects, butterflies and thousands of plants.

The Canopy Tour is considered one of the best in the whole country and once you are done with the zip lining and have walked the famous Hanging Bridges you will have worked up an appetite and lunch will be served.

After lunch, enjoy a relaxing walk through the butterfly garden where you can see all stages in the life of a butterfly, meanwhile they freely fly around you, the most impressive one being the Blue Morpho, a species native to Central America.

Another impressive visit is the one to the humming bird area where you can get to see hundreds of those very delicate and beautiful birds feeding up close and if you are lucky you will get to touch them.

At 3 pm we will take you to visit a local coffee farm where you will be shown the whole procedure from growing coffee to brewing this beverage. And of course you get to sit down to enjoy a real cup of coffee!
